Samstag, 24.06.2023 —<\/strong> \u00a0Ich bin erst am Montag aus LA zur\u00fcck gekommen. Gerade genug Zeit, um die Waschmaschine zu f\u00fcttern und die Koffer neu zu packen. Denn heute geht es schon wieder weiter. ANTHROCON<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> steht vor der T\u00fcr. Die gro\u00dfe Furry-Convetion in Pittsburgh, PA. Damit sich der Flug lohnt, habe ich noch einen Trip zu den Niagaraf\u00e4llen in die Reiseroute eingebaut. Und damit nicht genug. Morgen ist die Pride Parade in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

Und so sitze ich fr\u00fch morgens erneut in einem Mietwagen. Ich bin mittlerweile Stammgast bei AVIS am Flughafen. Sie erkl\u00e4ren mir schon gar nichts mehr, sondern geben mir gleich die Schl\u00fcssel.<\/p>\n

Ich parke gegen\u00fcber vom BEI-Hotel. Es ist schon ein Vorteil, wenn man die Gegend und den Standort der Parkh\u00e4user kennt. Von hier geht es zum Civic Center Park. Die Stra\u00dfen nord\u00f6stlich sind als Veranstaltungsgel\u00e4nge abgeriegelt. Nicht nur gesperrt. Abgeriegelt mit Panzersperren und quer gestellten LKWs.<\/p>\n

Viel zu berichten gibt es nicht. Die Veranstaltung ist bunt, laut<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> und queer; genau nach meinem Geschmack.<\/p>\n

Zu berichten gibt es nicht viel. Ich genie\u00dfe die Party.\u00a0 Ich treffe sogar ein paar Furries. Warum habe ich nicht daran gedacht? Gyoji liegt gut verpackt im Auto. Egal.<\/p>\n

Am sp\u00e4ten Nachmittag verlege ich in Richtung Castro. Parken ist gar nicht so einfach. Ich finde etwas in der 26th Street. Das ist nicht nur am Arsch der Welt, sondern ganz weit den Berg hinauf (80 H\u00f6henmeter).<\/p>\n

Von hier laufe ich erst zum Mission Dolores Park. Von hier hat man einen guten Blick auf dem Skyline von San Francisco. Leider haben die Amerikaner eine Menge M\u00fcll hinterlassen. Es ist nicht so schlimm wie beim Indy500, aber trotzdem. Ich vermisse Japan. Dort findet man nach einer Party maximal umgeknickte Grashalme.<\/p>\n

Sonntag, 25.06.2023 —\u00a0<\/strong>Heute ist Prideparade. Aber erst muss ich den Wagen abgeben. Ich hatte ihn nur f\u00fcr 24 Stunden gebucht. Getankt hatte ich gestern noch. S Airport Blvd und dann bin ich auch schon da. Die R\u00fcckgabe ist einfach. Das funktioniert einfach in den USA. Ich laufe zur\u00fcck zum Hotel. Dumme Idee. Es sind 2 Meilen entlang einer linealgeraden US-Stra\u00dfe. Ich froh, dass es zumindest Gehwege gibt.<\/p>\n

Zur\u00fcck am Hotel checke ich aus, parke mein Gep\u00e4ck an der Rezeption und bestelle ein uber zur\u00fcck in die Innenstadt. Das kostet knapp $30 pro Richtung ist aber billiger als ein Parkplatz und ein weiterer Tag Fahrzeugmiete.<\/p>\n

Der Fahrer setzt mich in der N\u00e4he vom SF Eagle ab. F\u00fcr die Parade sind etliche Stra\u00dfen gesperrt, u.a. Market Street. Das Verkehrschaos ist entsprechend.<\/p>\n

Die Parade ist hinter Bauz\u00e4unen. Anders als in Deutschland gibt es keine Chance Teil der Parade zu werden. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob das Schutz gegen Terror ist, oder ob sie die Anzahl der teilnehmenden Schwulen und Lesben begrenzen wollen. In den USA halte ich beides f\u00fcr denkbar. Das Veranstaltungsareal ist rund um den Civic Center Park. Keine Ahnung wo die Obdachlosen jetzt sind. Aber lassen wir das USA-Bashing. Man soll nicht auf Leute eintreten, die schon am Boden liegen.<\/p>\n

Nach der Parade besuche ich noch kurz das SF Eagle und mache einen erneuten Abstecher nach Castro. Viel zu berichten gibt es nicht. Bereits im 19:30 bringt mich eun uber zur\u00fcck zum Hotel. Von hier geht es mit Koffern zum Flughafen. Der Flug ist kurz vor Mitternacht.<\/p>\n

Montag 26.07.2025 —\u00a0<\/strong>Wir landen fr\u00fch morgens in Chicago. Hier muss ich in den Flieger nach Buffalo wechseln. Den Flughafen kenne ich schon. Das macht es einfacher, mich zu orientieren. Ich finde einen Platz, der eigentlich noch gar nicht ge\u00f6ffnet hat. ich bekomme trotzdem ein Bier und ich kann sogar etwas zu Essen ordern. Die Bedienung hat einen direkten Draht zu einem anderen Lokal.<\/p>\n

Der Flug nach Buffalo ist kurz und kreuzt eine weitere Zeitzone. Immer noch am Morgen stehe ich an der Mietwagen-Abholstation. Und erneut bin ich verbl\u00fcfft, wie dumm Amerikaner sein k\u00f6nnen: Einer will einen Wagen ohne Kreditkarte (als Sicherheit f\u00fcr Diebstahl und Sch\u00e4den) anmieten. Der andere hat keinen F\u00fchrerschein. Er hat also nicht nur keine Fahrerlaubnis sondern auch keine Ausweispapiere. Ich ich stehe hinter diesen Evolutionssackgassen in der Warteschlange.<\/p>\n

Endlich habe ich die Schl\u00fcssel. Und ja, ich treffe auf Amerikaner, die an der Anweisung „Gang entlang, rechts die Fahrst\u00fchle runter zur Ebene B2, dort nach links gehen“ scheitern. Keine Witz. Und eigentlich einfach, zumal es ausgeschildert ist. Egal. Auf die I-90, direkt auf die I-290 und dann auf die 62.<\/p>\n

Saturday, 24.06.2023 —<\/strong>\u00a0 I just got back from LA on Monday. Just enough time to feed the washing machine and repack my suitcases. Because today I’m off again. ANTHROCON<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> is just around the corner. The big furry convention in Pittsburgh, PA. To make the flight worthwhile, I’ve added a trip to Niagara Falls to the itinerary. And that’s not all. Tomorrow is the Pride Parade in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

And so, early in the morning, I find myself sitting in a rental car once again. I’m now a regular at AVIS at the airport. They don’t even bother explaining anything to me anymore, they just hand me the keys.<\/p>\n

I park across from the BEI Hotel. It’s definitely an advantage to know the area and the location of the parking garages. From here, I head to Civic Center Park. The streets to the northeast are cordoned off as an event venue. Not just closed off. Cordoned off with tank barriers and trucks parked across the streets.<\/p>\n

There’s not much to report. The event is colorful, loud<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> and queer; just my cup of tea.<\/p>\n

There’s not much to report. I’m enjoying the party. I even meet a few furries. Why didn’t I think of that? Gyoji is safely stowed in the car. Never mind.<\/p>\n

In the late afternoon, I head towards Castro. Parking isn’t that easy. I find a spot on 26th Street. Not only is it in the middle of nowhere, but it’s also way up the hill (80 meters).<\/p>\n

From here, I first walk to Mission Dolores Park. From here, you have a good view of the San Francisco skyline. Unfortunately, the Americans have left a lot of trash behind. It’s not as bad as at the Indy 500, but still. I miss Japan. There, after a party, you’ll find nothing more than a few bent blades of grass.<\/p>\n

Sunday, 25.06.2023 — <\/strong>Today is Pride Parade day. But first I have to return the car. I only booked it for 24 hours. I filled up the tank yesterday. S Airport Blvd and then I’m there. Returning the car is easy. That’s how it works in the US. I walk back to the hotel. Bad idea. It’s two miles along a straight US road. I’m glad there are at least sidewalks.<\/p>\n

Back at the hotel, I check out, leave my luggage at the front desk, and order an Uber back to downtown. It costs just under $30 each way, but it’s cheaper than parking and another day of car rental.<\/p>\n

The driver drops me off near SF Eagle. Several streets are closed for the parade, including Market Street. The traffic chaos is accordingly.<\/p>\n

The parade is behind construction fences. Unlike in Germany, there is no chance of becoming part of the parade. I’m not sure if this is for protection against terrorism or if they want to limit the number of gays and lesbians participating. In the US, I think both are conceivable. The event area is around Civic Center Park. I have no idea where the homeless people are now. But let’s not bash the US. You shouldn’t kick people when they’re already down.<\/p>\n

After the parade, I briefly visit the SF Eagle and make another detour to Castro. There’s not much to report. At 7:30 p.m., eun uber takes me back to the hotel. From here, I head to the airport with my suitcases. The flight is just before midnight.<\/p>\n

Montag 26.07.2025 —\u00a0<\/strong>We land in Chicago early in the morning. Here I have to change planes to Buffalo. I already know the airport, which makes it easier to find my way around. I find a place that isn’t actually open yet. Nevertheless, I get a beer and can even order something to eat. The waitress has a direct line to another restaurant.<\/p>\n

The flight to Buffalo is short and crosses another time zone. It’s still morning when I arrive at the car rental pick-up station. And once again, I’m amazed at how stupid Americans can be: one guy wants to rent a car without a credit card (as security for theft and damage). Another doesn’t have a driver’s license. So not only does he not have a driver’s license, he also has no identification papers. I stand behind these evolutionary dead ends in the queue.<\/p>\n

Finally, I have the keys. And yes, I meet Americans who fail to follow the instructions \u201cGo down the hallway, take the elevators on the right down to level B2, then turn left.\u201d No joke. And actually simple, especially since it’s signposted. Never mind. On to the I-90, directly onto the I-290 and then onto the 62.<\/p>\n
